Let’s cap our potential!

Compliance really is an ugly duckling when compared to many of the other critical disciplines that allows the business wheel to turn.

Whilst businesses do not like admitting that it is a “necessary evil” – the way the underlying systems are rolled out and treated, the implication is too often, plain.

(This is despite it being the law and the derived benefits you rarely see, such as how risk management and compliance systems dramatically influence culture and tone for broader business excellence. Yibbeda yibbeda)

But….

The mandate is typically let’s do “all that is reasonably practicable to comply”, comforted by the fact that the law is couched in such terms.

In other words – “just enough”, dot the i’s and cross the t’s. No wonder employees are not jumping out of their skin and bursting with enthusiasm.

Cue the slow leak of air from the balloon.

No doubt these very same discussions, limiting attitudes and directives are the centre-piece of discussion at sales meetings too.”Let’s put a cap on our potential today – do not get too carried away out there – just try and hit your budget!”

After all, we would not anyone thinking that safety really isn’t a priority.
